The Police Healthcare Scheme has,
since 1979 been known as the WMP
Medical Scheme. The scheme was
established by the WMP Benevolent
Fund for Serving Police Officers and a
short time later extended to continue
through retirement. Over the years
membership has been extended to
partners and children up to 18 years of
age and also to civilian support staff
and their families. Recently children
over 18 years can become full
members in their own right. The change
of name is to reflect the now national
profile of the scheme.
The main aim of the scheme remains
the provision of healthcare, which is not
readily available on the NHS.
Private inpatient treatment can now be
authorised just 2 days after receiving a
completed claim form.
What is more important to you than
health and that of your family? No-one
can guarantee good health but in case
you become ill it is very important to
know that the best possible medical
attention will be available without delay.
Regrettably while there is little doubt
about the quality of NHS care, it is not
always available when you need it.
Remember, you can find your pay
reduced to half or nothing after 6 or 12
months, so early treatment can be
essential.
This is where the Police Healthcare
Scheme and convalescent facilities can
considerably reduce the effects of illness and dramatically reduce expensive
periods of absence from work.
Benefits of the Healthcare Scheme include
- Direct access to top specialists.
- Access to the first class facilities
available at Nuffield & Capio
Hospitals throughout the UK.
- Generous cover for out-patient
treatment, including physiotherapy,
chiropractic, and osteopathic
treatment.
- Generous cover for diagnostic tests.
- Family cover includes all children.
- No excess on claims.
- When an inpatient at a Nuffield or
Capio hospital you will receive room
upgrade when available; £5 of free
phone calls per day, free newspaper,
fruit or flowers and one free visitors
meal per day.
The above is only a summary of the
benefits provided by the Benevolent
Fund and Police Healthcare Scheme.
All benefits are at the absolute
discretion of the Management
Committee.
